Delta Rockwell Drill Press Serial Numbers
Edit: Maybe replacing the entire unit makes more sense? Here is one choice: http://www.grizzly.com/products/Griz..ll-Press/G0779
I'm having trouble sourcing the rack and gear for lifting the table on our school 20' Rockwell Delta drill press.
Model 70-6x0
serial no. 1648288
Rack part number is: 1202149 and gear is 1202148
Delta says they are not made anymore.
They list the machine as: 70-612 built October of 1975.
The linear gear is a straight cut gear instead of made for a worm gear - so my thoughts are it should be 'easy' to source.
It's approx 36' long and 0.75' wide.
I do not know the correct numbers for the gear pitch and pressure angle as the rack gear is missing (must have been thrown out years ago before I started).
(I did see an online reference to a 15 degree angle gear)
But it shouldn't matter too much as long as I get the same round gear to fit the linear gear.
If needed, I could disassemble the head again and get the gear information off the head lifting rack and gear.
Should be close enough to work with I'd guess?
Any help is much appreciated

Ms works free download. Microsoft Works is compatible with and can support access to Microsoft Word (.doc) and Microsoft Excel (.xls) files. Works however has its own proprietary file format system; for documents it uses the.wps for word-processed documents,.wdb for databases, and.wks for spreadsheets. This file format limits its use severely on larger corporate settings. Works was discontinued in 2008 and its functionality was taken over by the Office Starter Edition.

After a very long search, I just purchased an older Delta / Rockwell drill press. There is very little information on the name plate, but the Serial number is 106-1049. It is painted a blue-ish green with a yellow belt gaurd. It is powered by a 3 phase 480 volt motor (to be replaced with a 1 hp single phase). This is a 'project' drill press in need of total disassembly, cleaning, buffing, painting, reassembly, and finally USE IT. Does anybody have any resources to further research this serial number for vintage, model number cross reference, etc. Thank you for any information you may have.

With a phone call to Delta, they will check the archive to see if a manual is available. If so, the cost is about $5. I've gotten manuals from the 1950's, they may have some from earlier dates.

They are very helpful but get ready to mortgage your house if you want any parts from them. The base for my drill press was almost $500.

There are a few bits of information at
http://www.owwm.com/
I search eBay for parts.
I have restored a 17' floor model, and a bench top 14'...I like them. Nowadays I think folks don't pay much attention to DP's, becuase everyone seems to have mill-drlls. - Plastic

THANKS,
The owwm website took me right to the serial numbers and found that it is a 1953 vintage. Great info.
