I just bought a house here in Swansea, MA. The previous owner didn't care to take her piano with her. Since I'm a pianist without a piano, I was glad to take it!!!! I actually wanted this house more than the others because of this piano.
Its a Mc Phail from Boston, the number inside is 43969, I guess it's from the 1910's. I love how this piano looks from outside (the wood work it's really nice)and the sound it's amazing (the sound of the strings that still works)
I've heard lots of pianos in my life, this one sounds just like a Grand piano, but it's an upright, VERY HEAVY.
The previous owners 'PAINTED' the outside with a light color, but the wood it's mahogany..dark and strong.
The piano inside it's not in a good shape (lots of hammers broken maybe 15, a few top keys lost). I don't have any idea of how to restore it, I think that must be expensive. I was thinking I could invest $300 and get it done, but I guess I would need much more than that to restore it at least just inside, don't care about the outside (I could do it myself). I don't have much money to use for it, but It hurt to have the piano and not been able to play it. (I play since 8 years old because I fall in love with a piano, my first concert at 10 years old)
I think it needs too much work, but I would love to restore it. Do you think I could do it myself with a book? I'm ready to learn at least until I have the money to get it done for a PRO.
