The serial number can be located in any one of several places on the gun, depending on which gun you possess. It may be on the frame of the gun, above the trigger guard or on the grip. On Walther pistols, the serial number will generally be located on the left-hand side of the slider. Hi, I have a Vintage Walther PP 7.65mm pistol that I recently bought and I'm interested in learning more about it. From what I've already been able to obtain from searching this site and looking at the serial number chart this gun should be dated around 1942.

Walther Serial Number Chart

Hello. I normally stick to Soviet Makarovs these days but I just picked up a Walther PP in .22 RF that was purchased and issued to British military units in the 1970's and 1980's based upon the research I have done. This one is in the known serial number range, has the German Federal military proofs, and the black 'paint over Parkerizing' arsenal refinish. The British designation is listed as the L66A1. The only suggestion as to the use these pistols were put to seems to be anecdotal comments that they were used in Northern Ireland during the 'Troubles' as personal defense weapons for at risk military, paramilitary and related personnel. Does anybody out there have documented military use of these weapons? A reported 3000 were purchased so they had to have been put to use somewhere. Thanks! Regards, ABTOMAT
